Oliver Rowland has ended the final practice session in Santiago fastest after the session finished under red flag conditions.
The session was brought to a halt after Ma Qing Hua crashed his NIO 333 car at the exit of Turn 5. The Chinese driver severely damaged the right-front suspension and has given his mechanics a huge job to get the car ready for qualifying and the race later today.
There was also an early stoppage to the session after a bizarre moment for Brendon Hartley as the Kiwi left the pits with his cooling fans still attached to his front nose, later dropping off after Hartley put the brakes on at the exit of the pit lane.
Just before the session-ending red flag was brought out for the Ma incident, Rowland set the fastest time of the session, but it was not a full 250kW lap, which means no driver has set a representative qualifying lap ahead of the qualifying session that will take place in just under an hour.
Rowland managed to set a 1:04.799s to end the session quickest for Nissan with Felipe Massa in second for Venturi setting a 1:04.930.
Mitch Evans ended the session third fastest for Jaguar Racing, with Max Gunther finishing in fourth place for BMW.
Andre Lotterer came home in fifth for Porsche ahead of Antonio Felix Da Costa in sixth and Edoardo Mortara in seventh.
Oliver Turvey had a promising session for the NIO 333 team as he ended the practice in eighth ahead of Daniel Abt in ninth and Hartley in tenth.
Sam Bird who set the pace in the morning session was only 22nd fastest, while reigning champion jean-Eric Vergne ended practice in 15th.
The other main notable incident was Da Costa and Oliver Rowland coming together at Turn 1, with both drivers touching each other side pods as the battled for track position to start their next flying laps.
