Mitch Evans has qualified on pole for the Santiago E-Prix and takes four championship points in doing so.
The Kiwi set a 1:04.827 in the all-important final Superpole to claim top spot and three championship points, he also claimed the additional point for being the fastest in the group qualifying session.
Max Guenther recorded his best qualifying performance as he will start from second on the grid with Pascal Wehrlein finishing third for Mahindra.
Felipe Massa will start fourth after posting the same lap time as Wehrlein of a 1:05.645s. The major shock of qualifying was Oliver Turvey who qualified fifth for NIO 333 team who are using a powertrain from season five.
Sebastien Buemi will start from sixth place after losing grip on his flying lap in Super Pole.
The other major shocks from qualifying were FP2 pace-setter Oliver Rowland crashing at Turn 5 and ripped off his front wing and front suspension.
Not long after Rowland’s crash, Lucas Di Grassi narrowly avoided the wall at Turn 9, with both drivers starting at the rear of the field,
Edoardo Mortara just missed out on Superpole in seventh, this despite the Venturi driver producing a stunning lap after he had to brake heavily at Turn 1 to avoid crashing into Robin Frijns who did a full 360 after losing the back end on turn-in.
Mercedes carried on their strong start in Formula E with Nyck De Vries in eighth with teammate Stoffel Vandoorne in ninth.
Antonio Felix Da Costa was the best of the Techeetah’s as he qualified in 10th place. Reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne will start right behind Da Costa in 11th place.
Neel Jani will start the race in 12th place for Porsche ahead of Daniel Abt in 13th and Andre Lotterer in 14th.
Championship leader Alexander Sims will start the race in 15th ahead of fellow Brit Sam Bird in the first of the Envision Virgin Racing cars.
Brendon Hartley will start 17th ahead of James Calado in 18th. Nico Muller will start 19th for Dragon Racing.
Jerome D’Ambrosio will start 20th but could have been so much higher up as his car broke down on the exit of the final corner.
Frijns, Di Grassi and Rowland follow after their incidents ahead of Ma Qing Hua who didn’t take part in qualifying due to his crash in FP2.
