The future of the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos remains uncertain in the wake of another classic race.
Earlier this year it was claimed by the country’s president Jair Bolsonaro that 2019 would see the last race at the historic circuit and a new venue in Deodoro, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, would be built in time for 2020.
That has since proven inaccurate with the GP staying in Sao Paulo next season and officially, there is a contract until the end of 2022.
Also, Sao Paulo mayor Joao Doria claims a new long-term deal is in the pipeline.
“As far as we are concerned, F1 will be in Sao Paulo for another 10 years,” he said via GPFans. “We will move forward in the first week of December with Chase Carey and his team to formalise this 10-year deal.”

The Liberty chief and F1 chairman wouldn’t sound quite so committal to a renewal, however.
“We have interests, we have multiple partners that are interested,” Carey said. “It is certainly our goal to continue to race in Brazil for a long time.
“Generally, there isn’t a specific deadline. Our general practice has been to announce the schedule for the next season around the summer.”
