Lance Stroll’s Turkish Grand Prix pole has been confirmed after the stewards ruled no further action in their investigation for failing to slow for yellow flags in Q1.
The 18-minute segment in qualifying took over an hour to complete as a downpour rendered the Istanbul Park track undrivable and Romain Grosjean beached his Haas in the gravel at Turn 1.
That resulted in a frantic rush for one last flying lap as conditions improved, but offs for Pierre Gasly and Nicholas Latifi saw yellow flags be shown in the middle sector.
Several drivers, including Stroll, still managed to go faster on their last lap, mostly due to the gradually increasing grip.
However, Magnussen, who finished 16th, claimed it was also because of their failure to slow through the caution zones.
“There was a yellow flag around all of the lap and everyone improved,” said the Dane post-session.
“I backed off for those yellow flags, everyone seemed to be improving. I was P7 and I got knocked out, so clearly nobody gave an ‘F’. People didn’t respect the rules.
“They have to look at it during the session and delete those lap times because now I’m out and apparently I was the only one who backed out and respected those rules that we have.
“They need to abort the lap if there’s double yellow flags, which there was.
“I should be running now. I was P7 and didn’t push because there was yellow flags. Clearly, the track improved and I’m p***ed off.”

Stroll, along with Norris, Ricciardo and both Mercedes, to name just a few, were summoned to the stewards post-qualifying.
So far the only penalty handed out was a three-place grid drop to Carlos Sainz for impeding Sergio Perez, dropping the Spaniard to 16th place.
