Toro Rosso praise the progress of Kvyat & Albon during 2019

Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost has offered a positive assessment of his two drivers.

After the underperformance on Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly’s promotion to Red Bull, the junior team had to deal with an all-new line-up for 2019.

For Daniil Kvyat, however, it was his third time at the Italian squad and with four top 10’s so far this season, Tost is seeing a very different Russian compared to 2017.

“Daniil is much more experienced now,” he said via GPFans.com. “He is much more mature.

“He understands the technical side much better. Last year, as well all know, he was working at Ferrari in the simulator.

“I think that he learned there also a lot and everything is coming together with him and therefore he is showing a good performance.”

Teammate Alexander Albon was more of an unknown quantity despite a strong year in F2 last year, particularly as he had not driven an F1 car before the first test in Barcelona.

“I must say that Alex is coming up with a very good performance and I think he is a surprise. He is making good progress,” the Toro Rosso chief noted.

“We have two real competitive drivers. They have high natural speeds; they are quite good, talented.”

Focusing on Albon, the British-Thai driver also recently spoke about how he has adjusted to life on the grid.

“The F1 circus isn’t so crazy once you’ve spent time in it. You just adjust to it and everything becomes normal. I’m getting there,” he said.

“At the beginning, it was a bit daunting in some respects how much stuff you had to do. Now it’s more like, you get used to it.

“Early points was always good for me. I’m happy with the team as well, I feel very comfortable with them. I don’t feel stressed out or anything like that, I’ve got a lot of support from these guys and the feeling is good.”
