Vergne takes Pole for Bern E-Pris, disaster for di Grassi

DS Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne locks in Pole for 2019 Swiss E-Prix in Bern ahead of and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans and home race hero Sebastien Buemi. Championship hopefuls di Grassi and da Costa start from the back.

Despite a “rollercoaster” track in the Swiss capital of Bern, reigning Champion Jean-Eric Vergne will start the final round in the voestalpine European races at the front, leading Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans and home race hero Sebastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams).

Starting the race in fourth is Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein, who sits ahead of Geox Dragon’s Max Gunther and Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird.

Just outside of Super Pole is Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt who finds himself starting the race seventh, ahead of DS Techeetah driver and Championship hopeful Andre Lotterer. Close behind is Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns – currently fifth in the standings – with Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Alex Lynn rounding off the top ten.

Starting 11th is Mahindra Racing’s Jerome d’Ambrosio who sits in front of Venturi’s Felipe Massa and Nissan e.dams’ rookie Oliver Rowland in 13th. Starting behind the British driver is Geox Dragon’s Jose Maria Lopez and HWA Racelab rookie Stoffel Vandoorne, who sits directly in front of his teammate Gary Paffett. In 17th is BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Alex Sims who leads Swiss Venturi driver and home race hero Edoardo Mortara.

Disappointed with his Qualifying flying lap after heading out first, Audi Sport Abt Scheaffler’s Lucas di Grassi is set to start the race in 19th. In the Championship fight, the Brazilian’s back-end start in Bern could severely impact his chances of clinching a second title. Behind di Grassi sits BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Antonio Felix da Costa – also a Championship title contender and fourth in the standings – who starts ahead of both NIO drivers Tom Dillmann and Oliver Turvey in 21st and 22nd respectively.
