Sebastian Vettel needs to feel Formula 1 will be “exciting” when the rules change in 2021 if he is to remain past next season.
Already, there has been a lot of speculation that the German could retire at the end of this year, although he is consistently reiterated his desire to see out his current contract at Ferrari.
Like all of the long-serving drivers on the grid however, Vettel is watching with interest to see if the planned overhaul of the regulations motivates him enough to continue.
“Of course. Yes. I still need to look at in a way that I say the cars are exciting, the formula is exciting,” he was quoted by PlanetF1.
“Time is ticking obviously. It’s good we’ve been asked. We gave our opinion and we will give our opinion again.
“Hopefully we find the sport taking the right turns to grow, to allow us to race, to allow us to challenge ourselves and explore our skills.”

While a lot of focus is on the commercial changes, which it is hoped will address the current two-tier grid with the top three teams and the rest.
For the drivers, there is the prospect of calendar expansion and all-new cars, with Vettel eager to see one area addressed.
“At high-speed, they are top of the class. Low-speed, I wouldn’t say bottom of the class! They are just too heavy,” he said rating today’s cars to those he raced early in his F1 career.
“It’s something I don’t like. I think the Formula 1 car that I got to know first was very exciting throughout the speed ranges.
“The race turned out to be a sprint race, which was great because you could push yourself and the car and the tyres every lap,” he added.
“That has changed a bit. We are managing some races more, some races less and some management will always be here and rightly so. You need to also use your head, not just your feet and hands.
“But still the one rewarded most should be the fastest guy.”
