Sebastian Vettel isn’t concerned by trying to finish ahead of Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in the Drivers’ standings.
The Monegasque’s run of victories after the summer break saw him surge into third place behind the two Mercedes’ and currently holds the position by just nine points over Vettel and Max Verstappen.
And while admitting, of course, he would like to finish ahead of Leclerc, the four-time Formula 1 champion isn’t making it a target.
“No,” was Vettel’s simple response. “It’s normal that you try to beat your teammate. It’s been the same in all the years I’ve been running in a team with two cars, in F3 I even had three teammates.
“I think that’s normal, that’s the name of the game, that’s competition, that’s how we grew up racing each other. We want to be faster than all the other guys, that’s normal I would say.”

However: “I think there’s only one championship you can win, so certainly we try to use these races as a team to get the right momentum and get in the right place for next year because the cars will be largely the same.
“Anything we can learn this year still will help us for next year.”
With Ferrari ending 2019 stronger than Red Bull, it would certainly seem likely it will only be either Vettel or Leclerc in third.
Although, Verstappen heads to this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix knowing he is unbeaten at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez the past two years.
