Williams boss Capito and technical chief Demaison depart in surprise move

Williams has parted ways with team boss Jost Capito and technical director FX Demaison in a surprise move.

Capito has been part of the Grove-based outfit as CEO since December 2020, becoming team principal midway through 2021 as Williams transitioned under new owners Dorilton Capital.

However, after a difficult 2022 season which saw the team finish bottom of the Constructors’ Championship despite four points finishes, it appears Williams’ American backers want a new direction.

“We would like to thank Jost for his hard work and dedication as we embarked on a major transformation process to begin the journey of reviving Williams Racing,” Dorilton chairman Matthew Savage commented.

“We’re grateful that Jost postponed his planned retirement to take on this challenge and now he will pass the reins on for the next part of this staged process. We would also like to thank FX for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future as he moves on.”

During his tenure, Capito has overseen great change within Williams, including the arrival of Alex Albon in 2022 as well as promoting junior driver Logan Sargeant into a race seat for 2023.

Behind the scenes too, he has played a key role in setting out the company’s business path, one he hopes will bring great reward in the future at Williams.

“It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team,” he said. “I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.”
