Williams has released the first studio images of their 2020 car, the FW43.
The historic British team heads into this season eager to finally make some progress after spending the entirety of 2019 at the back of the grid.
And already there is a positive sign, with the new car ready in time for the start of pre-season testing on Wednesday, which wasn’t the case 12 months ago as Williams didn’t hit the track until the third day.
At the heart of their problems has been deeply flawed designs the past two years, something that has led to a shake-up of their technical team and changes to their operation at Grove.
And while the new car does seem a step forward in that regard from the bulky design of last year, the aerodynamic details around the bargeboard area certainly don’t have the complexity of many cars seen.
Still, the new livery is certainly a positive and hopefully, this is just the foundation for Williams to finally return to the midfield fray.
The team will be led again by George Russell, who heads into his second year on the grid eager for a much more competitive season after being the only driver not to score a point in 2019.
The talent of the young Briton is not disputed, having stepped up as the F2 champion from 2018, but while the likes of Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and Alex Albon have all made an impact in F1, so far Russell hasn’t had the opportunity to do so.
Alongside him is the only rookie on the 2020 grid as Nicholas Latifi is promoted to a race seat having been a reserve in 2019.
The Canadian finished second in F2 last year and replaces Robert Kubica, whose comeback to F1 lasted just a single season.
