Williams has signed former Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum to their Driver Academy for 2020.
The Briton was considered as the next driver to step up at Toro Rosso as he tried to secure enough superlicence points, however, would suddenly leave the program this summer following a poor performance in Japan’s Super Formula.
Only last month, Ticktum had suggested he could give up his motorsport dream but now it’s back on as a development role at Williams and F2 seat with DAMS awaits next year.
“It is a privilege to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy, especially given Williams’ incredible heritage in our sport,” he said.
“The time in the simulator and experience working with the team will prove invaluable for my development. Being fully integrated into the operations will be a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to assisting wherever I can.”

Ticktum has a controversial past after being given a two-year ban from racing in 2013 after intentionally hitting a rival under a Safety Car in MSA Formula and questioned Mick Schumacher’s sudden surge to win the European F3 title in 2018 at his expense.
However, he has also shown potential and it is that side which appeals to Williams.
“I am delighted that Dan, another exciting young British talent, has joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” deputy team boss Claire Williams said.
“His ability behind the wheel has been demonstrated with back-to-back successes at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018.
“Dan’s technical expertise will prove invaluable to the team and we are looking forward to helping him grow and develop in 2020.”
