MotoGP announced plans to hold its 2024 season finale at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, replacing the cancelled Valencia round due to devastating floods.
“We thought it was important to hold a final event,” said Dorna’s Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta. “Barcelona is the best possible place given the proximity to Valencia.”
Barcelona previously hosted the championship’s seventh round in May, with Aleix Espargaro winning the Sprint Race before Francesco Bagnaia claimed victory in the Grand Prix. This will be Espargaro’s final appearance at his home track before retirement.
Qatar and Portimao were considered as replacements, but logistical challenges and costs ruled them out.
The new finale, featuring all three classes (MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3), is scheduled for November 15-17, followed by a post-season MotoGP test.
Several riders pledged to donate prize money to the Valencia flood victims, with MotoGP also planning a “race for Valencia” in Barcelona.
The Moto2 and Moto3 champions are already crowned, while Jorge Martin has a chance to win the 2024 MotoGP title at Sepang this weekend.
