Abu Dhabi better than Brazil to host F1 season finale, says Haas boss

Abu Dhabi is a better location to host the Formula 1 season finale than Brazil’s Interlagos, Haas chief Guenther Steiner claims.

The Yas Marina Circuit took the final slot on the calendar away from the historic venue in 2009 and has only handed it back three times since, between 2011-2013.

In that time, however, the Middle Eastern venue has rarely produced the drama seen in Sao Paulo over the years but that, according to the Haas boss, doesn’t matter.

“The racing here has never been particularly good due to the characteristics of the track,” Steiner admitted via GrandPrix.com

“But I don’t think we saw a bad show this year just because Lewis Hamilton left everyone behind from the start.”

While the racing might be poor at Yas Marina though, the Italian believes the spectacle is what puts it above Interlagos.

“I do not think Abu Dhabi is the wrong place for the finale. Do you really want it in Brazil? I don’t think so,” he declared

“Interlagos is probably better suited from a sporting point of view, but if we talk about the atmosphere, then in Abu Dhabi it is simply magnificent.

“For example, we don’t always see exciting races in Melbourne either, but it’s always a great show for the first race of the season and I believe that Abu Dhabi is also good for the final one,” he concluded.
