Fernando Alonso has given his strongest hint yet that he isn’t interested in returning to Formula 1 in the future.
The Spaniard called time on his 18-year stint on the grid last year to focus on his new goals of achieving motorsport’s triple crown and winning in other categories.
But the prospect of a future return to F1 has always been a key question facing the double world champion and it came up again as he did a Q&A with followers via Instagram.
“Not a lot, the chapter I had was better than my most optimistic dreams!” Alonso said on if he missed being on the grid.
“The same motives that made me decide not to continue, continue to be present…
“And being able to compete and trying to win in other disciplines forces me to rise to a level I didn’t have before.
“[So I’m] very happy.”

Another follower asked the 37-year-old about McLaren’s improved performance in 2019, which sees them currently fourth in the Constructors’ standings.
“Fantastic,” he declared. “That was the plan.
“The team was/is/and will be always strong and it’s a step in the right direction.
“Hopefully, we consolidate fourth place in the constructors.”
There was one aspect of the past two results which still frustrated Alonso, however,
“Still hopefully more to come, last two races sixth position was one lap down to the leader…and that’s not good for the sport,” he admitted.
