Mick Schumacher will follow his father in driving a Ferrari Formula 1 car at the post-race test in Bahrain next week it has been confirmed.

The German will be at the Middle Eastern venue for the start of the new Formula 2 season this weekend with Prema, however, his opportunity with the Scuderia would come as part of his Ferrari Academy duties.

Autosport reported on Monday and now it is official Schumacher will drive the opening day in the SF90 next Tuesday and will then gain further experience by switching to Alfa Romeo on Wednesday.

“I am obviously more than excited and would like to thank Alfa Romeo Racing for giving me this opportunity,” he said in a press release from Alfa Romeo.

“I am really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a great experience.”

In the meantime, the 20-year-old admits: “For the moment, I am consciously putting all thoughts of the test to one side, because I am also very much looking forward to competing in my first F2 race and would like to focus a hundred per cent on the weekend to come.”
