Ferrari has become the second team to pass the mandatory FIA crash tests with their 2020 Formula 1 car.

The new design, created under the codename ‘671’, is set to be launched in just under a month on February 11 and will carry the hope of every Tifosi in finally claiming their first championship since 2008.

There has already been much speculation in the Italian media about changes coming for the new car, including a rendering that suggested a change to a Mercedes-style front nose.

A shift to a higher downforce philosophy is also expected after the low drag body of last year proved the main weakness in optimising tyre performance and general cornering compared to their rivals.

Speaking about Ferrari’s chances heading into this year, Charles Leclerc was positive but also admits one eye is already on the overhaul coming for 2021.

“I hope so, although it will be very difficult,” said the Monegasque.

“The season ahead will be very important, with teams investing a lot before the budget cap arrives. I will try to be as ready as possible also for 2021 because I think it will be a great year,” Leclerc concluded.

This news comes after Racing Point became the first team to pass the crash tests ahead of pre-season testing but Alfa Romeo reportedly failed in their attempt to meet the governing body’s strict safety standards.
