W Series champion Jamie Chadwick has been retained as a Williams development driver for 2020.

The young Briton was given the role after claiming the inaugural all-female championship last year, working behind the scenes on the simulator.

Those duties are to be stepped up this year with Chadwick also attending several races and unsurprisingly she was thrilled at the prospect of gaining more experience within the Formula 1 environment.

“It has been a fantastic opportunity working with the team in my role as a development driver,” the 21-year-old said.

“The time spent in the simulator has been invaluable and I have enjoyed every moment, immersing myself within the team.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Williams this year.”

Under the leadership of Claire Williams, the Grove-based team has been working to offer female drivers a chance to prove themselves.

Indeed, the last female to take part in an F1 session was Susie Wolff for Williams in 2014 and the deputy team boss is proud to continue their support of Chadwick.

“I am delighted to confirm that Jamie will continue her work in the Williams Racing Driver Academy this year," she said.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Jamie develop and excel, both with the team and her time racing in W Series.

“Jamie has done an excellent job promoting women in motorsport and we are extremely proud of the work she has done.”

As well as her Williams duties, Chadwick will compete again in W Series and Asian F3 this year before joining the new Extreme E series in 2021.
