Ahead of his seventh season at the team, Sergio Perez admits he expected every year to be his last at Force India/Racing Point.
The Mexican joined the Silverstone-based outfit after been dropped by McLaren at the end of 2013, and has become an increasingly important figure with his financial backing becoming crucial in the survival of the team in 2018.
It was also Perez who triggered the administration process which led to the takeover by Lawrence Stroll in the summer of that year, something that has brought new life to the squad now known as Racing Point.
"I would never have imagined to be that long with the team because pretty much, up to now, every year was a year renewal - a year-by-year [contract]," Checo recently told Autosport.
"Every year I thought that was going to be my last - that I was going to change team, but then to look back, it's been incredible that ride we've had.
"We had some ups and downs, but yeah, we've been tremendously successful."
Five podiums and two 'best of the rest' finishes in the Constructors' Championship highlight Perez's stay with the team, and now he hopes to continue as Racing Point embarks on another new era from 2021.
"I think now we get the big opportunity to be partnering with Aston Martin," he added.
