Lewis Hamilton has avoided a penalty for failing to slow under yellow flags during qualifying.

The Mercedes driver was under investigation for two possible infringements during Q3, the most severe being that he set his fastest mini-sector while yellow flags were being waved for teammate Valtteri Bottas' trip across the gravel at Turn 4.

It was proven, however, that at the time, both yellow and green flag signals were being shown on the LED boards in that part of the track.

As a result, the stewards decided to take no further action.

His second infringement regarded whether Hamilton had exceeded track limits at Turn 10 on his first flying lap in the final part of qualifying.

Here it was decided that was the case and that time was deleted, though of course, he would improve on his second lap to finish P2 to Bottas, just 0.012s off the Finn's pole time.
