Heavy rain caused the cancellation of final practice for the Styrian Grand Prix on Saturday.

As predicted, the glorious weather of Friday was replaced by gloom and persistent rain soaking the Red Bull Ring for much of the morning.

Despite delaying the start of the session indefinitely in the hope of conditions improving, that would never come and the hour elapsed with no drivers able to get out on track.

With the rain set to stay in Spielberg for the rest of the day, qualifying is also under threat of either being delayed until Sunday or not happening at all.

Should the latter happen, the grid would be decided by the results of second practice on Friday, meaning Max Verstappen would start on pole ahead of Valtteri Bottas.

Lewis Hamilton would be down in sixth after struggling with setup on Friday, while Sebastian Vettel would be 16th having focused on trialling new parts on his Ferrari.
