Lance Stroll would understand if his Dad ever dropped him from the Racing Point team, saying it's "just business".

For many, the Canadian has a seat for life at what will become Aston Martin in 2021 as it is owned by his father Lawrence Stroll.

That view is kind of backed up by the current speculation claiming teammate Sergio Perez would make way if Sebastian Vettel joins next season, despite the Mexican currently being the quicker driver.

However, if the day did come that Stroll Sr. wanted to replace him, the 21-year-old insists it would simply be part of the job.

“C’est la vie. There’s a working relationship and there’s a father/son relationship. If he cut me from the team then no hard feelings…it’s just business, it’s just how it goes sometimes,” he told Channel 4.

“I’d take it on the chin, move on and live to fight another day."

Asked how they balance family and work, Stroll explained: “It’s a pretty easy-going relationship I’ve got with him. There’s great chemistry and he doesn’t step on my toes and gives me my space.

“And he does what he has to do on the sidelines to make the car as quick as possible and put all the right people together.

“We’ve made a great team for so many years, have been riding this wave together and we’re riding a pretty good one right now.”

For many though, his father's support is the only reason he's in F1 but that is criticism Stroll ignores.

“I’ve heard all the noise and heard it my whole life to be honest so I stay in my little bubble and keep the people that really matter close to me and the rest is just background noise," he said. I just try to do my talking on the track."

And as for all the aforementioned speculation linking four-time world champion Vettel to what will become Aston Martin next year, Lance is equally unfussed.

“Time will tell," he said. "I’m just doing my thing on my side of the garage and whoever turns up will be another competitor and I want to go up against the best, to challenge myself as much as possible at all times.

“We’ll see what happens but I’m really just focused on my thing.”
