Istanbul's first Formula 1 race in nine years has been confirmed as part of the final 2020 calendar released on Tuesday.

Due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19, the original 22-race schedule had to be completely redrawn with no races taking place in the Americas of the Far East.

Instead, a 17-race championship is now the aim consisting of some historic and new circuits such as Mugello, Imola, Nurburgring and Portimao.

The Turkish Grand Prix is the latest to join the list of revived races for potentially one year only and will take place on the weekend of November 13-15.

Another feature of the heavily revised 2020 calendar has been tripleheaders and the fourth of the year has been confirmed to complete the season, with two races in Bahrain followed by the Abu Dhabi GP on December 13.

Earlier in the year, there was a suggestion to use the previously unraced Outer Circuit layout of the Bahrain track for what will be known as the Sakhir GP on December 6.

That has yet to be confirmed, though it would be expected that a different design would be the ideal way to differentiate the two races.

What this final calendar also does is offer a little bit of headroom as 15 races is tthe minimum F1 needs to receive full TV broadcasting revenue, something that would limit the financial impact of Covid-19 somewhat.
