Renault has decided to withdraw their appeal against Racing Point in the ongoing case regarding their brake ducts.

Earlier this month, the French manufacturer successfully won three protests they made against Racing Point between the Styrian and British Grand Prix's, alleging the brake ducts on their 2020 car, dubbed the 'Pink Mercedes', breached the regulations on listed parts.

However, many teams were unhappy when the stewards only handed the Silverstone-based team a 15-point deduction and a 400k Euros fine, resulting in two, Renault and Ferrari, submitting an appeal.

The main focus of their protests centered on the fact Racing Point has essentially cloned last year's Mercedes, through photos and data legally bought from the Brackley-based team.

Their success in doing so, becoming the third fastest team as a result, has led to concerns other teams may follow suit, to the detriment of traditional Constructors like Renault.

However, with the FIA now seeking ways to limit teams copying each other, that has satisfied them enough to no longer pursue any further action.

“Beyond the decisions, the matters at issue were vital to the integrity of Formula 1, both during the current season and in the future," a statement said on Tuesday evening.

“However, intensive and constructive work between the FIA, Renault DP World F1 Team and all Formula 1 stakeholders has led to concrete progress in safeguarding the originality in the sport by way of amendments to the Sporting and Technical Regulations planned for the 2021 racing season, confirming the requirements to qualify as a Constructor.

“Reaching this strategic objective, in the context of the new Concorde Agreement, was our priority.

“The controversy of the start of this season should be put behind us, as we need to focus on the remainder of an intense and unique championship.”

Renault's withdrawal now leaves Ferrari as the only team still seeking a harsher punishment, and according to the PA news agency there is no intent by the Italian team to follow Renault's action.

Meanwhile, Racing Point too are also appealing as they push to have the original ruling overturned.
