Sergio Perez had little to report on his future though did joke only Red Bull knew if he had a chance at a 2021 seat.

After his exit from Racing Point was announced back at Mugello, the Mexican has admitted to holding talks with teams but didn't specify which, although Haas is one destination he is regularly linked to.

One rumour even went as far as suggesting Perez could be confirmed at the American squad as early as this weekend, but speaking at the Nurburgring on Thursday, Checo offered this update.

“At the moment there’s nothing to report, nothing has been signed," he said.

"There has been some progress. I think it’s going to take a bit more time and I think in Formula 1 if you don’t have anything signed, everything is up in the air. So nothing really to say.”

After Alex Albon's troubles returned at the Russian GP, talk of the possibility of Red Bull choosing an outsider like Perez, who finished fourth in Sochi, began to rise.

Christian Horner and Co., however, have made it clear that Albon is still their man at least for now, and Sergio wasn't taking that possibility too seriously.

“I am sure they know!" he said on whether Red Bull was an option. “As I say, I don’t have really a lot to say in that regard.

"Right now it’s just a matter of keeping all the doors open and be patient as well. I'm in no hurry, so let’s see what comes up in the next couple of weeks."

Ahead of the Eifel GP, Racing Point confirmed Perez will finally get the full upgrade package which teammate Lance Stroll has had since Mugello.

Something that should help the team in their fight with McLaren and Renault in the Teams' standings.

“We’re close to the third in the Constructors’ Championship so that’s the focus," said the 30-year-old. "Right now, I am fully focused on my season with my team.

"I think we made some good progress, we are getting my season back on track. I just want to deliver weekend after weekend.

"We’ve been pretty unlucky in the last couple of races with how everything has panned out, missing two races as well [with Covid-19].

"Now, all of a sudden, my season gets a bit more on the way and we are close to where we should be."
