Mercedes is set to bring back their traditional silver livery for the 2022 Formula 1 season, according to German publication Bild.

The Brackley-based team has raced in black for the past two years, in support of Lewis Hamilton's activism against racism, as well as launching the Accelerate 25 program to bring greater diversity to the workforce at the German manufacturer.

But Mercedes has always been known for the 'Silver Arrows' and the all-new W13, which was fired up for the first time last month, will reportedly revive that tradition.

Something the seven-time world champion welcomed when asked about the possibility last summer.

“It’s originally a Silver Arrow,” Hamilton said. “When I asked if we could go to make the car black last year, in terms of the symbolism, and what we intend to do moving forward in terms of support, I wasn’t expecting it to last particularly long and we carried it into a second season, which was awesome.

“If it goes back, it will be a nice change. It doesn’t deter us from the changes we are making internally as we continue to truly push for diversity, even working with all of our partners.

“We’ve got a good programme going, so it doesn’t make a difference.”

On New Year's Day, Mercedes released a teaser of their 2022 car on social media featuring the basic shape all F1 cars will have under the new regulations.
