The prospect of Lewis Hamilton one day joining Ferrari has again been proposed by Sky Sports commentator David Croft.

While the Briton has often suggested before he would end his Formula 1 career at Mercedes, many believe the lure of racing in red remains strong for the five-time world champion.

But with the possibility of matching Michael Schumacher's records of seven titles and 91 wins still in sight, Croft doubts Hamilton would head to Maranello just for the sake of it.

“Wouldn’t it be nice to see Hamilton as a Ferrari driver,” he pondered, speaking to Express Sport. “It can happen so don’t ever count that one out.

“I am sure Lewis Hamilton thought about that once or twice as well and if Ferrari has a car to win a championship I think it could happen.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming 2019 season, Croft sees the possibility for one of the most competitive years for quite some time thanks to Red Bull.

“Red Bull and Max Verstappen are getting better and better as the years go on, Pierre Gasly is his teammate and crucially, Honda engines powering for the first time – a new partnership there. They are in the championship party as well," he said.

“There are three teams, six drivers all capable of winning a race at every single Grand Prix. That is what fans want to see; variety and competition.”
