Haas taking no chances with pitstops as Australia 2018 memories remain

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner admits mechanics have been completing plenty of pit-stop practice ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

Last year, the team was on for their best ever finish in Melbourne before both Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean were forced to retire with loose wheels.

A lack of practice in pre-season was blamed for the disastrous stops and the American outfit is doing all they can to prevent a repeat this year.

“We obviously haven’t forgotten last year’s pit stops in Australia, which went wrong,” Steiner was quoted by PlanetF1.

“This year we’ve put a lot of emphasis on arriving there prepared. We brought a 2018 car to our car build in Italy so we could train every day and work on pit stops.

“We did the same in Barcelona, as the current car is not always available for pit stop practice when you test.

“Every day the whole crew practiced around 10 to 12 pit stops a day.”

Much like last year, Haas head to the opening race looking like strong midfield contenders, let's hope they can keep all four wheels on their wagons this time.
