Pierre Gasly is looking to build on the positives from Australia as he heads to one of his favourite venues in Bahrain.

The new Red Bull driver had a tricky start to the season in Melbourne, as a strategic error by the team saw him knocked out in Q1 and start P18.

Then, Gasly spent much of Sunday sat behind Daniil Kvyat and would eventually finish just shy of the points in P11.

However, asked what he was hoping for in Bahrain on Thursday, the Frenchman said: “Hopefully we can have a weekend like we did in Australia.

“I think the overall pace was looking promising and yeah, for sure, what happened in qualifying really put us on the back foot for the race, and on a track like that, made the final result pretty poor and clearly not what we wanted."

Further encouraging Gasly is the apparent potential of Red Bull-Honda, as shown by his teammate Max Verstappen, who finished on the podium.

“I think the performance from Max is really positive for everybody in the team and for Honda," he said.

“I’m really happy for Honda to get their first podium, it’s looking pretty positive for the coming races.”

Gasly heads to Bahrain looking to replicate the fourth-place finish he achieved with Toro Rosso last year, which had been Honda's best result since their comeback to F1 in 2015 until Max's P3 in Oz.
