Williams has confirmed Robert Kubica's car can be repaired after a hefty crash into the barrier during Azerbaijan GP qualifying.

The Pole misjudged the kerb at the tight Turn 8 during his final run in Q1 and was plucked into the barrier on the outside causing the loss of the entire front-right corner.

With Williams lacking spare parts, particularly after George Russell hit a drain cover on Friday, some wondered if the British team would be able to fix the damage.

“We will replace both front corners, brakes and steering column on his car following the accident, and we have replacement parts available for all of this," a spokeswoman said.

As for Kubica himself, Saturday's crash was his first since returning to Formula 1 either as a test or race driver.

And while the 21G impact triggered an automatic trip for a check-up at the medical centre, he was unharmed.

“It’s all OK,” he said. “It’s not a huge impact but of course the medical centre they had to, for precautions, do all the tests. I feel good so no problem.”

Explaining the incident, which Charles Leclerc would repeat in Q2, Kubica told the BBC: “I clipped the inside with the front left which pushed me into the wall.

“It’s the worst place you can make that kind of evaluation and unfortunately I paid quite a high price. That’s how it is.”
