The future of the Spanish Grand Prix remains uncertain after the circuit denied recent reports of new funding from the local government.

Since this year's race back in May, speculation has swirled that the Barcelona race could be one of two rounds to make way for the inclusion of new rounds in Vietnam and Holland in 2020.

The severity of the situation was then laid out when bosses at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya issued a public plea for more public money to secure a new deal.

However, reports this week in the region suggested the Catalan government had come up with a financial package to keep the Spanish GP next year.

“No agreement has been reached yet with Formula 1 in order to renew the agreement for the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya,” a statement from the circuit declared.

“The negotiations for the renewal of the agreement with Formula 1 continue and are still open.

“As soon as an agreement has been reached, whether for renewal or a non-renewal, it will be made known officially through the usual channels used by Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.”

In addition to Spain, the German and Mexican GP's make up the trio that are thought to be most in danger of falling off the calendar.

This week, Hockenheim bosses indicated it would likely be one of the two venues to make way, leaving Barcelona and Mexico City to negotiate.
