Ecclestone: Liberty should only worry about two teams in 2021 talks

Ex-Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says Liberty Media should only focus on keeping two teams happy in 2021.

October marks the final month for talks to agree on a full set of regulations, with a number of areas still being hotly debated between teams, the FIA and F1 bosses.

However, while efforts are being made to find a compromise which will sustain the current grid, Ecclestone believes only two teams are essential.

“Make a deal with Ferrari and Red Bull, then go to the other teams and say: take it or leave,” he told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport on what his approach would be.

Another factor constantly hanging over the talks, is the power that Ferrari has to disrupt everything by blocking the introduction of new rules.

Team boss Mattia Binotto, however, is hopeful that they won't need to use it.

“First, we have got the veto right and it would be a shame to use it,” he was quoted by PlanetF1.

“I don’t think that’s the intention, I don’t think that’s what we are looking for.

“More important is to be very constructive. We’ve still got a month’s time to address the fundamentals by the end of October.

“If the regulations are not fully satisfactory by that time I don’t think it will be a drama because we still have time to address and improve them.”
