Pierre Gasly wants to prove he can fight with “one of, if not the best driver in the field” Max Verstappen.
Last year saw the Frenchman step up alongside the Dutchman at Red Bull as the replacement to Daniel Ricciardo, but he would only finish ahead once before being sent back to Toro Rosso during the summer break.
Gasly though is undeterred about the thought of racing against Verstappen again, even if he accepts Max is a better driver right now.
“He is one of the most talented, if not the best, driver in the field,” Gasly told AutoBild.
“He has shown more than once that he can do things that many others are unable to do. I am sure he will become world champion one day.

“I have only two years of Formula 1 experience, but I have fought him on the kart more than once.
“It is up to me to prove that I can continue to fight with him in the future – also for championships. ”
Since being sent back to Toro Rosso, Gasly has refocused and showed the potential which earned him the promotion in the first place.
This year he is set to continue at the team now named AlphaTauri, but the 23-year-old certainly has ambitions of stepping up again.
“It’s too early to talk about it, but of course I want to drive in the fastest car available,” he said.
“My personal goal is to fight for victories and championships in the future and obviously Red Bull would be able to provide me with a car.
“But my head and my energy are currently full at AlphaTauri. We have a lot of tasks ahead of us.”
