Pierre Gasly is eager to finish the job after managing a strong fifth on the grid for the British Grand Prix.

After a tough stretch of races, the Frenchman arrived at Silverstone confident of improvement having analysed why he finished a lap behind Max Verstappen in Austria.

And that has carried through as he finished three-tenths behind his Red Bull teammate, following a much more productive weekend.

“We had some good pace on Friday and also in FP3,” Gasly told Formula1.com.

“We know that in qualifying, Mercedes and Ferrari usually turn up their engine which makes things a bit harder for us. But I think as a team we can be happy with P3 and P5.

“It was important after a good Friday to make sure we got a good starting position so we can be happy with that.”

Race pace has been his big weakness however, but the 23-year-old is enthusiastic of sustaining this stronger performance on Sunday.

“I’m really excited,” he said on his race prospects. “The weekend has been really positive so far, we start on the medium tyres, I think Ferrari are on a different strategy so I’m looking forward to it!”
