Pierre Gasly does expect he will have “other options” in Formula 1 if there’s no route back to Red Bull.
The Frenchman has once again led the charge at AlphaTauri this season, as rookie Yuki Tsunoda struggles to consistently show the pace he had in Bahrain.
And with Sergio Perez only signed on a one-year contract at Red Bull, Gasly remains focused on a return to the team where he only lasted 12 races in 2019.
“Personally, I’m in Formula 1 to fight at the top,” he said at Portimao recently. “I’m working every day to be the best driver I can be to one day fight for championships, fight more consistently for podiums and for wins.

“That’s the ultimate target. I hope it happens with Red Bull. I’m in Formula 1 thanks to Red Bull, so I’m really grateful for that. At the moment I’m still contracted with them, so that’s the goal.
“I think if there is a will to work together, obviously I’ll be really happy with that, and if there is no will to work together, there will be other options,” he claimed.
“But I think, for now, the most important is to be competitive, to put strong performances like I’ve been doing and showing good results, and then we’ll see later for the opportunities.”
Gasly has been linked to Alpine for 2022, but Esteban Ocon’s impressive start to this season may well close that door unless Mercedes potentially come calling for the Frenchman.
If Red Bull doesn’t re-promote Pierre for 2022 though, he could be a driver to watch in what is likely to be a crazy silly season to come.
