In an encouraging start to the Hungaroring weekend for ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport, Esteban Guerrieri made it a one-two for the German squad as local talent Attila Tassi raised hopes of home success in third place.
“It’s always good to start the weekend like this because it gives you a lot of confidence and it shows the car is really good,” said Girolami.
“We worked so well in the pre-season and we knew that we had a really good potential here. But the weekend is starting tomorrow and maybe the weather is completely different, this time doesn’t tell you nothing.”
After Hungarian hero Norbert Michelisz set the early pace for BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse, compatriot Tassi moved to the top of the rankings in his KCMG Honda. And the 19-year-old looked set to complete the 45-minute session at the head of the order, until a late flurry of top times from several rivals dropped him back.
Jean-Karl Vernay was fourth quickest for Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport with Aurélien Panis heading Comtoyou DHL Team Cupra Racing team-mate Tom Coronel in fifth place. Michelisz ended the session with Andy Priaulx (Cyan Performance Lynk & Co) in eighth followed by Augusto Farfus (BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team) and KCMG’s Tiago Monteiro.
Niels Langeveld, Frédéric Vervisch, Kevin Ceccon, Mikel Azcona and Daniel Haglöf completed the top 15.
