Lewis Hamilton’s relationship with Valtteri Bottas is a key reason why the Finn is expected to stay at Mercedes next season.
Reports are pointing to an official announcement this weekend in Belgium confirming Bottas will continue at the German manufacturer, while his rival for the seat, Esteban Ocon, will be heading to Renault in 2020.
Mercedes has previously admitted Hamilton would get a say in the decision and former Formula 1 racer JJ Lehto believes that the right outcome has been reached.
“Before it is official you can’t believe it, but I certainly hope it’s true,” GPFans quoted him as saying.

“He has done a good job and challenged Hamilton really well. He had a few bad races just before the summer break, but I think the decision was being made over a much longer time.
“The team will look at what combination of drivers is best for them. It certainly seems that Hamilton wants Valtteri to be the other driver, and that is a factor that will be considered.”
French publication AutoHebdo published a magazine cover on Monday showing Ocon in Renault overalls.
The final hurdle though is the future of Nico Hulkenberg, with an agreed move to a different seat, likely Haas, needed before any deal for Ocon can be agreed.
