Lewis Hamilton simply can’t wait to swap machinery with Valentino Rossi at an upcoming event next month.
Arranged by joint sponsor Monster Energy, the six-time champion will get his first chance to ride the Yamaha MotoGP bike, while the ‘Doctor’ will step behind the wheel of the Mercedes Formula 1 car in Valencia.
“I am super excited by it,” Hamilton said via Motorsport Week. “I’ve been riding bikes for the last couple of years but I’ve only done three days on track, but they have been incredible and I am always watching MotoGP.
“It is great as there is a small group of us within the team that love riding and it is something I’ve always wanted to generally do since I was really young.”

Given his achievements, you’d think there are few people Hamilton could get starstruck by, but Rossi is certainly one.
“It is really hardcore so I am just… just being on the same track at the same time as Valentino is going to be very, very surreal and a real honour,” he added.
“He is such an icon in the sport and he has done so much for it, and it will be cool to see him in my car.”
Rossi isn’t a novice in an F1 car either, having tested for Ferrari in 2006 and was apparently considered as a replacement for Michael Schumacher before opting to stay on two wheels.
