Hell RX: Gronholm makes strong return with a race win in Q1

Finland’s Niclas Gronholm missed the Belgian and UK rounds of World RX with illness but bounced back at Hell RX with a race win in Q1 Race 3 and the quickest time with the GRX Hyundai i20 Supercar.

Home hero Andreas Bakkerud won Q1 Race 2 in front of Gronholm’s GRX team mate Timur Timerzyanov, the pair setting second and third quickest times, but World RX Drivers’ Championship leader Timmy Hansen lost time when he was hit by Team STARD’s Janis Baumanis in the first corner of Race 4, then had to avoid the stricken Renault Clio RS RX of GCK Academy’s Guillaume De Ridder in the joker lap section on lap four.

Team Hansen MJP’s Hansen was P4 in Q1, and in a strong debut for ESmotorsport Labas-GAS, Netherland’s Kevin Abbring was P5 overall in the Skoda Fabia.

Germany’s Timo Scheider used clever joker lap tactics in Q1 Race 1 with the ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport Seat Ibiza by taking the joker lap from the pole and forcing GC Kompetition’s Anton Marklund and Hansen MJP’s Kevin Hansen wide. On his debut for GCK Academy, Rokas Baciuska was P7 in Q1.

In the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar it was Sweden’s Thomas Bryntesson who was quickest in Q1 and Norway’s Ben-Philip Gundersen was quickest in the RX2 International Series.
