Nico Hulkenberg has played down suggestions he could switch to Formula E with Porsche after this season.

The German’s future at Renault is one of the stories being followed in the driver market, with his contract expiring and Esteban Ocon previously linked to his seat if he doesn’t join Mercedes.

An unexpected alternative has emerged with Porsche as they prepare to join the all-electric series from Season 6 and Hulkenberg does have history having won Le Mans with the brand in 2015.

“I’m not ready for Formula E yet. I like what I’m doing,” he said via GrandPrix247.

“It will obviously depend on the opportunities available, but for now, I’m focusing exclusively on Formula 1.”

Hulkenberg has voiced some frustration at Renault in recent weeks and has also been named as a potential Haas option should they drop Romain Grosjean for 2020.

However: “There are always rumours, it’s like that in F1,” the 10-year veteran of the grid said.

“I’m still pretty confident about staying in Formula 1. There is not much that has changed since last week.”
