While Mick Schumacher's rise to Formula 2 has got plenty of attention, there's another Schumacher following not far behind.

David Schumacher, son of former Jordan, Williams and Toyota driver Ralf and nephew to seven-time F1 champion Michael, has joined the Formula 3 grid in 2020.

The 19-year-old made his debut in F3 last year at the final round in Sochi, this after competing in the European Formula Regional Championship in 2019, finishing fourth in the standings.

While Schumacher drove for Campos Racing during his first F3 outing last year, this season he'll compete for Charouz Racing alongside Niko Kari and Igor Fraga.

“I feel really happy and grateful to make the step up to FIA Formula 3 full-time with Charouz. I drove two events at the end of last year and that was good preparation for the season ahead,” Schumacher said.

“I got to learn more about the car and that’s valuable as we don’t have many practice opportunities during race weekends. I think we can make a step forward this season and I will try and finish as high as possible.”

Just like his father, David's rise is somewhat in the shadow of his cousin Mick, but with the pressure on him to improve after a reasonable first year in F2 last year, perhaps having that presence in the other F1 support paddock could spur both on this year.
