Ralf Schumacher still believes the "signs are good" for Mick to reach Formula 1 in the future.

The son of Ralf's seven-time F1 champion brother Michael is tipped to be promoted for 2021, with a seat at Alfa Romeo considered the most likely.

But first, Schumacher has to build on a relatively disappointing first year in F2 last year, as he finished only 13th in the final championship.

“Mick has proven that he can drive. Otherwise he would not be Formula 3 champion," Ralf said, speaking to Germany's Sport1.

“His first year in Formula 2 was quite passable, he had some good results and even a win. That is all well and good, but it is reassessed every year.

“He is now entering his second year. He doesn’t necessarily have to win, but he should be in the top five or ideally in the top three.

"You shouldn’t put too much pressure on him either. So far, the signs are good. He’s also a Ferrari junior, so he’s got all the options.”

Ralf's own son David is also making his own way up the motorsport ladder and will compete in F3 when the season eventually begins, hopefully in Austria in July.
