Sergio Perez will be back for Racing Point at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix it has been confirmed.

The Mexican missed the past two races at Silverstone after testing positive for Covid-19 following a trip home to see his mother between the Hungarian and British GP's.

However, during the entire period his symptoms were mild at most and on Thursday it was announced he had tested negative and had been allowed to travel to Barcelona.

“I’ve been able to keep training and make sure that I’m ready to jump back behind the wheel of the car," Perez commented.

“I’m very glad I had my tablet to keep me entertained too, though. I’ve definitely missed racing and it was hard to watch from the outside. I can’t wait to get on track.”

Also back is Stoffel Vandoorne as reserve driver at Mercedes, McLaren and Racing Point, with the Belgian ready to head to Spain after the Formula E season finale in Berlin on Thursday.

Last week, Paul di Resta was kept on standby by McLaren just in case, this as a new regulation means Mercedes' other back-up driver Esteban Gutierrez doesn't actually qualify for the necessary superlicence all drivers must have to compete in F1.

Vandoorne's return means Nico Hulkenberg, who has deputised for Sergio the past two weeks, will be back watching the race in the comfort of his armchair.
