Campos Racing is announced the team’s driver line up for the 2020 Formula 2 Championship with retained Jack Aitken partnering with series newcomer Guilherme Samaia.

Campos Racing’s Formula 2 programme will again shine with such a strong driver line-up with the team focusing on being competitive from the first race for title bid.

Aitken will enter his second campaign in the main F1 feeder series in Campos Racing colors. The Anglo-Korean racer finished fifth in the drivers’ standings last year with three triumphs to his name, including an emotional home win at Silverstone in front of his crowd.

Aitken secured other four rostrum finishes throughout the season in his Campos Racing-run Dallara F2 2018. In 2020, the recently named Williams Racing’s reserve driver has eyes on title contention once again.

On the other hand, Samaia will make his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship following a positive testing with Campos Racing in Abu Dhabi last December. It will be a learning year for Samaia who, anyway, will have the chance to shine as the former Brazilian Formula 3 Champion already showed his talent after bursting on the international scene.

Aitken and Samaia will head to Sakhir to complete the first collective test of the series at the Bahrain International Circuit on 1-3 March. The season will kick off at the same place three weeks later.

Adrián Campos (President of Campos Racing): “We are very certain that Campos Racing has all of the key ingredients to put together something pretty special with our driver line-up consisting of Jack Aitken and Guilherme Samaia, with whom we will be contesting the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship. I’m very proud to have Jack on-board once again and feel confident that we will achieve even bigger goals together. On the other hand, Guilherme is a young and promising driver with a nice future ahead. We thank him for trusting us.”

Jack Aitken said: “Formula 2 delivers some of the closest and hardest racing that you will find anywhere in the world, so I’m really happy to be getting back to it in 2020.”

“It was important to find a race drive for this year, and it was logical to build on the excellent work we did with Campos Racing last year to go for another season. Campos Racing is a team made up of excellent individuals and I look forward to a new way of working with my race engineer Miguel and all of the rest of the guys.”

“Last year we were fifth in the championship but we were challenging for wins and the championship throughout the whole season, so that’s what we need to try and do again: build the season as a whole and make progress step by step. Last year we did a great job by winning three times. This year we will carry on that work by going for even more wins and the Championship itself”.

Guilherme Samaia added: “I’m really happy to join Campos Racing team for the 2020 Formula 2 season. I feel I couldn’t be in a better place to come into the championship. Campos Racing showed strong and solid results last year and throughout their whole history. They are a very professional and reliable team.”

“I am lucky to have such an experienced team and team-mate with me, which I will learn a lot from. I’m confident that together, we will be a strong presence this season. I would like to thank my sponsors and all those around me that made this possible. Joining F2 is a major step on my career, I feel ready to face the challenges it will bring me. I can’t wait to get started in this new era of Formula 2.”
