Jos Verstappen has strongly rejected claims that his son Max talks “regularly” to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

Last week, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko revealed there is a “performance clause” in the Dutchman’s contract and suggested the German manufacturer is keeping in contact with Verstappen.

However, despite previous contact between his son and the Mercedes chief in 2017, Jos denies that line continues.

“That’s nonsense, Toto never calls Max, I don’t even think he has his number,” the former Formula 1 driver told De Telegraaf newspaper.

“I occasionally speak to Toto, but that makes sense.”

“We are very satisfied with Red Bull and with the cooperation with Honda,” Jos said. “We are working together to make a dream come true.”
