The eighteen-year-old Danish driver and Renault Sport Academy member Christian Lundgaard, who this year raced in the Formula 3 Championship will make his F2 debut at the UAE track with Team Trident colours during the last round of the championship.

Team Trident is proud to announce that 18-year-old Danish racer Christian Lundgaard will be part of its driver line-up for the final round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Abu Dhabi.

The Renault Sport Academy member will make his series debut alongside the returning Giuliano Alesi. After finishing as runner up in the 2018 Formula Renault Eurocup, the Renault junior driver delivered an excellent season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2019, securing one win, two pole positions and three fastest laps that handed him sixth place overall.

The technical staff of Team Trident was elated to welcome the young talent to the family and will do its best to support him in this key moment. Lundgaard has shown strong progress in motorsport, having only started racing in single-seaters three years ago.

After karting success, he was recruited to the Renault Sport Academy for 2017 and in his first full racing season won the Formula 4 NEZ and the Spanish Formula 4 Championships as a rookie with seventeen wins and 31 podium finishes in his first single-seater season.

He moved to Formula Renault Eurocup in 2018 where he finished second with four wins and ten podium finishes. This season, a convincing year in the FIA Formula 3 Championship has laid solid foundations for the next stage in his career.

“I’m proud and excited to make my F2 debut and would like to thank Renault Sport Academy, Trident and my partners for their faith in me.” Said Lundgaard

“Stepping into a championship at the last round is going to be a big challenge, but it will be great experience. F2 is a big step up, the racing is always hard-fought and you need to think strategically on how to turn the races to your advantage – I’m looking forward to getting started and seeing what we can do.”

Team Manager Giacomo Ricci added: “”We are very happy to welcome a talented young driver like Christian Lundgaard, as he is proving to be one of the most interesting prospects in Motorsport.”

“This year, as a rookie, Christian delivered a great season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship: I was impressed by his skills every time I saw him on track. For Team Trident, to have Christian on board represents an excellent opportunity to take home good results and contribute to his growth. We will do our best to support him on his Formula 2 debut, on a track on which he has never raced on”.
