Rain temporarily halted play in FP1, as all riders headed back into the pits once the rain suddenly poured.

And once the rain came down the track became extremely slippy, with a lot of the riders dropping down at turn one. Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team VR46) went down first, setting off a chain of crashes, including a particularly bad one between Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) and Danny Kent, who is stepping in for the injured Marcel Schrotter at Dynavolt Intact GP. It looked as if Marquez’ bike ran straight into Kent, and the Bri was taken to the medical centre for a check up.

FP1 was by far one of the most crash-filled sessions we have seen in Moto2 for a while. Almost all of the top riders went down at one point, with some crashing on more than one occasion and it was bizarre that the session wasn’t red flagged.

Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) topped the times, from Dominique Aegerter (Kiefer Racing) and championship leader Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS).
