Joan Mir (Leopard Racing) returned to the Red Bull Ring on top form, after taking his maiden win at the Austrian track last year. Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) had a solid run in second, finishing just 0.354 seconds behind Mir.
Marcos Ramirez (Platinum Bay Real Estate) continued to make his mark on the Moto3 field, ending the session in third, just 0.495 seconds behind the leader.
‘Mr Pole’ Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) is returning from injury this weekend, after being forced to sit out the race in Brno as his injury was still giving him pain. He finished the session in seventh, a solid FP1 result with all things considered.
John McPhee (British Talent Team) ended FP1 in eighth, as he continues to pick up his podium form from the start of the year.
