Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen are facing likely exclusions from their top 10 finishes at the United States Grand Prix.

The Force India and Haas drivers battled to eighth and ninth at Austin but both may have broken fuel-related regulations during Sunday’s race.

In the case of Ocon, it is thought he may have exceeded the 100kg/hr fuel flow limit on the opening lap, the same thing Daniel Ricciardo was famously disqualified from the 2014 Australian GP.

While Magnussen may be the first driver ever to be penalised for going over the 105kg fuel allowance that each car gets to complete a full race distance.

Given both are usually measured by sensors it would be tough to imagine the FIA not investigating unless the breaches were already clear and it could have a big impact on the race result.

Brendon Hartley and Stoffel Vandoorne would be the beneficiaries to ninth and 10th respectively, while Haas’ failure to score would see Renault 22 points clear in their battle for fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.
