Sergio Perez has confirmed he will be remaining at Force India for the 2019 Formula 1 season.

It is an announcement that has been widely expected with the Mexican hinting as far back as the end of August that his future had been secured with the British team.

Now, ahead of perhaps the two most important races of his year in Austin and then Mexico City in a week’s time, the decision has been made to make it official.

“I am very happy to announce my future and I’m really motivated for 2019,” said Perez.

“Force India has been my home since 2014 and has allowed me to grow as a driver and show my skills on track. We have achieved so much in the last five seasons but I think the best is yet to come.

“The new investment the team is enjoying fills me with confidence and I am really excited about the future.”

It was the 28-year-old, who brings strong financial backing to Force India, who instigated the administration process which led to Lawrence Stroll’s takeover during the summer.

What has often been forgotten, however, is just how good Perez is with five podiums to his name with the Silverstone squad with his most recent coming in Baku back in April.

“Sergio is one of the most talented and consistent drivers on the F1 grid,” team principal Otmar Szafnauer commented.

“He gives us valuable stability going forward and is a huge asset to the team. As we begin an exciting new chapter in the life of this team, we are delighted that Sergio will race with us going forward.”

Checo is set to be joined by Lance Stroll next season following his father’s purchase of the team though it increasingly appears that move will now occur at the end of the season.
