Racing Point F1 is to become the new official name of the former Force India team, the 2019 Formula 1 entry list has confirmed.
The Silverstone-based outfit, which was taken over by Lawrence Stroll last summer, had hoped to announce a rebranding when they launch their 2019 car at the Toronto Auto Show on February 13.
According to the respected website RaceFans.net, that brand was expected to be the Lola name which last raced in F1 in 1993, however, a deal to secure the naming rights of the new defunct engineering company fell through.
Therefore, following a digital vote of the F1 Commission last week, Racing Point F1 was approved as the new team and chassis name and that will be what they’ll race under this season.
While the squad has not confirmed anything officially, they have already changed their Twitter handle to @RacingPointF1 and the website has also been renamed asĀ www.racingpoint.com.
